myki and Fare Information

From 1 January 2026, under 18’s travel free on all public transport in Victoria with a youth myki.

Children under 4 travel free.  Students (4-18) can purchase a youth myki, which offers free travel.

Myki is the public transport ticketing system for Geelong, Bellarine and Torquay buses (excluding V/Line). myki is durable, reusable, plastic smart card that stores value. No more searching for loose change or worrying about which ticket to buy. Simply keep myki topped up and use it over and over again on the bus or train/tram in Melbourne.

The different types of myki are: full fare, concession, free youth myki (4-18 year olds) and seniors.  **Children under 4 travel for free.

You can buy and top up myki at myki.com.au, by calling 13 6954 (13 myki) or at myki outlets.

You can also set your myki to auto top up by visiting the myki website. Simply choose your minimum balance, and when your myki drops below that balance, it will automatically top itself up to the amount you have set.

A valid myki must be used to travel on our services. Customers traveling without a valid myki may be subject to a fine.

The zone boundaries between zone 4 and 5 are as follows:

Bellarine Highway:
Zone 4 / Zone 5 boundary is at Bawtree Road

Portarlington Road:
Zone 4 / Zone 5 boundary is at Bawtree Road

Barwon Heads Road:
Zone 4 / Zone 5 boundary is at Lake Road (closest end to Geelong)

Surf Coast Highway:
Zone 4 / Zone 5 boundary is at Mt Duneed Road

There are several outlets in the Geelong area that sell myki

Full myki service – buy, top up (myki money & passes), & register (as shown in red on map):

There are three types of myki concession cards

  • General concession myki which is for people with an eligible concession card, such as as Pension Card, or Health Care Card.
  • Youth myki which provides free travel for people aged 4 to 18 years old. Children under 4 years old are free.
  • Seniors concession myki which is for people with a Seniors Card. Seniors get free travel on weekends for 2 adjacent zones of travel

Students aged between 4 and 18 years of age can register for a youth myki, which offers free travel for children under 18.   For more details on youth myki, visit the PTV website here

myki will automatically charge you the cheapest fare for your trip or trips.

2-hour fare

Your first touch on of the day will expire exactly 2 hours after your first touch on. For example if you touch on at 9.05am it will be valid til 11.05am.

However, if your first touch on occurs after 6pm, then you can travel until 3am the next morning and you will only pay a 2 hour fare.

You should continue to touch on and touch off as you travel so that you have a valid ticket and pay the correct fare for your journey.

Daily cap

Daily caps apply for travel. Once a daily cap has been reached, you can make unlimited journeys within the applicable zone(s) until the end of the day and pay no more than the daily cap.

Our buses are not equipped with credit card or EFTPOS facilities. You can buy and top up myki at myki.com.au, by calling 13 6954 (13 myki) or at myki outlets.

Exchanging your free travel voucher for a V/Line train ticket entitles you to travel in a zone 4 regional area of Geelong only. These tickets cannot be used for travel to coastal areas eg Portarlington and Torquay as they are zone 5 areas.
